Search

Search lets you quickly find anything in Couple Tools - tasks, events, notes, messages, people, and locations.

Accessing Search

Tap the Search icon in the app bar or navigation to open the search screen.

Search Screen

The search screen has two main parts:

Search Field:

  • Auto-focuses when you open search
  • Type to search in real-time
  • Tap X to clear your search

Filter Dropdown:

  • Filter results by type
  • Options: All, Tasks, Events, Notes, Messages, People, Locations
  • Default is "All" to search everything

How Search Works

Real-Time Results:

  • Results appear as you type
  • No need to press Enter or a search button
  • Results update instantly as you refine your query

Smart Ranking:

  • Most relevant results appear first
  • Uses full-text search with BM25 ranking

Search Results

Each result shows:

  • Icon - Indicates the type (task, event, note, etc.)
  • Title - The item's name or title
  • Subtitle - Preview of content or description
  • Pin indicator - Shows if item is pinned (for applicable types)

Empty States:

  • Before typing: "Start typing to search"
  • No results: "No results found"

Navigating to Results

Tap any result to go directly to that item:

  • Tasks - Opens task detail screen
  • Events - Opens event detail screen
  • Notes - Opens note detail screen
  • Messages - Opens chat screen (scrolls to message)
  • People - Opens person detail screen
  • Locations - Opens location detail screen

Tips

  1. Use the filter - If you know you're looking for a task, filter to "Tasks" to narrow results

  2. Start broad - Begin with a general term, then add more words to narrow down

  3. Search for people/places - Find contacts and locations to see them or add mentions

  4. Search messages - Find past conversations by searching message content

  5. Close and navigate - After tapping a result, search closes and you're taken directly to the item

Search Behavior

  • Search screen closes when you tap a result
  • Search state is cleared when you close the screen
  • Results are limited to items you have access to (respects privacy settings)
  • Search indexes are kept up to date automatically
